Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have suffered significant setbacks in the latest ICC Test batter rankings. Following India’s heavy 10-wicket defeat to Australia in the Adelaide pink-ball Test last week, both players saw a sharp decline in rankings. Kohli dropped six places, falling to 20th, while Rohit dropped five spots and is now ranked 31st, outside the top 30. Kohli, who appeared to regain form after scoring his 30th century in the Perth Test, struggled in Adelaide, posting scores of just 7 and 11.
Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, dropped to 6th in the batting rankings after managing only nine runs across both innings in Adelaide. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant are the only Indians currently ranked in the top 10. Jaiswal holds the 4th spot, while Pant dropped three places to 9th. The next best-ranked Indian is Shubman Gill, who is currently in 17th place.
In a significant development, Harry Brook has overtaken Joe Root to claim the top spot in the latest ICC Men’s Test Batter Rankings.
The ICC noted the “changing of the guard at the top” as Australian and South African players made notable gains on the updated list. Joe Root’s reign as the world’s top batter ended with rising England star Harry Brook securing the No. 1 spot for the first time. Brook climbed to the top after scoring his eighth Test century against New Zealand in Wellington last week, edging ahead of Root by just one point.
Brook’s rating of 898 narrowly surpasses Root’s 897, and at 25, Brook joins India legend Sachin Tendulkar with the 34th highest rating of all time for Test batters.
Root had held the top spot since July, when he surpassed former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, and has been No. 1 a total of nine times during his illustrious career.
