OpenAI gathered feedback from Indian artists and other stakeholders to develop its AI video-making tool, Sora. Here are the details.

HIGHLIGHTS:

OpenAI’s Sora enables users to create realistic videos from text prompts, available worldwide, including in India. The platform provides 50 videos per month at 480p resolution for free, with Pro plans offering increased usage and higher video quality. Safeguards are implemented to prevent the creation of harmful content, such as deepfakes and child sexual abuse materials.

Following Google’s Veo, OpenAI has launched its own text-to-video platform, Sora. In a recent blog post, the San Francisco-based company shared that it has incorporated valuable feedback from Indian artists, filmmakers, and creatives in the development of this tool. Sora allows users to create realistic videos from text prompts and is now available globally, including in India. It’s important to note that Sora is accessible only to users with a ChatGPT Plus subscription, at no additional cost.

After an initial research preview earlier this year, OpenAI worked closely with artists, including those in India, to enhance the user experience. An OpenAI spokesperson mentioned, “India has a world-renowned community of creatives, artists, and filmmakers, and we’re excited to see the innovative ways they will use Sora.”

For those yet to try Sora, the platform lets users generate videos up to 20 seconds long with a resolution of up to 1080p. Videos can be downloaded in various aspect ratios, including widescreen, vertical, and square formats. Initially, users can generate up to 50 videos at 480p resolution or fewer at 720p. Higher-tier Pro plans offer more usage and improved video quality. OpenAI has stated that they will introduce specific pricing for Sora based on user needs in early 2024.

Additionally, OpenAI has implemented safeguards within Sora to prevent the creation of harmful content, such as deepfakes and child sexual abuse material. The platform also includes watermarks for transparency and tools to verify the origins of videos.

“We are blocking particularly damaging forms of abuse, such as child sexual abuse materials and sexual deepfakes. Uploads of people will be limited at launch, but we plan to expand this feature as we improve our deepfake mitigations,” the blog stated.
