Fortnite OG is making a return. Here’s everything you need to know about the mode’s release, maps, and game pass.

Fortnite has announced the return of its “OG” version, which launched on December 6 for both new and longtime fans of the popular game.

Fortnite is bringing back its original (OG) iteration, with the new version launching on Friday, following the debut of Season 1, the game’s developers announced.

The OG version takes players “all the way back,” offering both new and returning fans the chance to experience the “classic Fortnite Battle Royale” gameplay, according to the Fortnite team’s official release.

“Jumping out of the battle bus, the ground rushes up to meet you. Deploy your glider, soar into the action, land on a rooftop, build a wall, grab a gun, pop a shield, and fight to survive,” the release describes.

In addition to the original Battle Royale, players will have access to “OG loot, OG locations, and OG gameplay,” as confirmed by the developers.

Here’s everything you need to know about Fortnite OG, including details on the rollout, map, and game pass.

What is Fortnite OG?

Fortnite OG aims to “recreate those early days” by bringing back the original map, loot, and features that captivated gamers when the game first launched in 2017, according to the developers.

At launch, players will be able to enjoy Solos and Squads modes, as well as the Zero Build mode, which eliminates the need to gather materials for building structures. Developers also mentioned that ranked Fortnite OG will be “coming soon.”

While the focus is on nostalgia, some newer features will remain in place, including enhanced building mechanics and the ability to sprint, slide, mantle, bash doors, and move while healing, as detailed in the release.

When does Fortnite OG Season 1 end?

Fortnite OG seasons will be shorter than those in the current Battle Royale mode, with Season 1 scheduled to end on January 31, 2025, at 2 a.m. ET, as stated in the release.

Will the original Fortnite map return?

Yes, the original Fortnite map from the game’s 2017 launch is making a comeback, as confirmed by the developers.

“Great care has been taken to ensure that every tree, chest, car, and object is exactly where you remember it,” the release states. “In Zero Build, we’ve also added Ziplines and Ascenders to help you reach difficult locations.”

More info on the Fortnite OG pass

The Fortnite OG pass for Chapter 1, Season 1 will be available for completion until January 31, 2025, at 2 a.m. ET, according to the developers. This pass will include 45 tiers of retro rewards, featuring classic items and outfits with a “modern twist.” Outfits like Renegade Rebel, Aerial Assault Bomber, and Skull Commander can be earned in Season 1, each with an unlockable alternate style.

The pass can be leveled up with XP gained from playing any Fortnite experience, the release states.

Additionally, Fortnite OG Cups are coming soonā€”open, unprized competitions for the Fortnite OG game mode. “In these cups, the OG loot pool is available with no competitive loot changes,” the developers explained.
