The third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia is scheduled to begin on December 14 at the Brisbane Cricket Ground. Ahead of the match, Australia captain Pat Cummins emphasized the pride that comes with winning a Test on home soil. After suffering a heavy 295-run loss to India at Perth’s Optus Stadium, where standout performances from Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Yashasvi Jaiswal stole the show, the hosts are aiming to bounce back.
With the series now tied at 1-1, the next match will take place at “The Gabba,” where an inexperienced Indian team shocked Australia by handing them their first Test loss in over 32 years during the 2020-21 tour.
Pat Cummins spoke about the pride of winning in Australia, stating, “Winning in Australia is definitely something we take pride in. These are our home conditions, the ones we grew up playing in. The hardest thing in cricket today is winning Test series away from home. To make it to the World Test Championship, you need to win everything at home and pick up some wins overseas when you can. We always expect to win every home series, as that’s what we’ve grown up watching, and those are the standards we set for ourselves,” he said during the pre-match press conference.
The 31-year-old also discussed the possibility of using bouncers against Indian batters, given that the pitch is expected to favor their bowlers.
“Yes, potentially. It worked in the Adelaide Test. It’s always in the back of your mind as a Plan B, or if the pitch looks uncomfortable and likely to take wickets, it could become part of Plan A for certain batters,” Cummins explained.
The captain also praised the batting approach and mentality of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh.
“Everyone has their own approach. Trav and Mitch are natural shot-makers, that’s just their style. Some of the other guys might approach things a bit differently, especially here at the Gabba. Conditions can change from day one to day two or three, so everyone has their own method. The key is to play to your strengths, and Trav did that last week,” the fast bowler added.
