A rape investigation in Sweden, reportedly involving Kylian Mbappé, has been closed due to insufficient evidence.

In October, Kylian Mbappé’s lawyer expressed shock after his name was linked to an investigation into alleged rape and sexual assault in Stockholm. On Thursday, Swedish prosecutors announced that the investigation, which had initially been reported to target the Real Madrid forward, was closed due to a lack of evidence. The 25-year-old French football star had visited Stockholm between October 9-11 with a group of individuals after being excluded from France’s squad for a Nations League match. On October 15, Sweden’s prosecution authority revealed they were looking into a possible incident at a luxury hotel in Stockholm on October 10, though they did not identify the suspect at the time.

The 25-year-old French star visited the Swedish capital from October 9-11, after being excluded from France’s squad for a Nations League match. On October 15, Swedish authorities announced they were looking into an alleged incident that took place at a luxury hotel in Stockholm on October 10, but did not initially name the suspect.

Several Swedish outlets, including Aftonbladet, Expressen, and SVT, identified Mbappé as the individual involved. However, prosecutor Marina Chirakova confirmed that the evidence was not sufficient to move forward with the case, and the investigation was closed. She added that the individual in question had neither been interrogated nor officially notified of any suspicion of a crime. Despite conducting numerous interviews during the investigation, Chirakova stated that new evidence or questioning would not alter the outcome.

Mbappé’s lawyer had expressed shock in October when his client’s name was linked to the investigation, and the player himself firmly denied any involvement. Speaking to French television, he stated, “I haven’t received anything, no summons… I’m not involved.”

According to reports from Aftonbladet, Mbappé and his entourage were seen dining at a restaurant before heading to a nightclub. The complaint was filed on October 12, after the alleged victim sought medical attention. Some clothing, including women’s underwear and a black outfit, was seized by police as part of the investigation.

Mbappé, who joined Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, has managed to maintain a relatively scandal-free public image throughout his career. While his season has been challenging, he scored in Real Madrid’s 3-2 win over Atalanta in the Champions League, helping the team secure a place in the knockout stages. Mbappé had a standout career at PSG, playing alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar, but the team never managed to capture the Champions League title.
