Today marks the launch of Apple Intelligence with new features introduced in iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2. This update enhances the user experience across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, building on the initial set of capabilities. Apple Intelligence is an intuitive personal assistant system that offers relevant intelligence while prioritizing privacy in AI. New features include Image Playground, which allows users to create visually expressive images, Genmoji for crafting personalized emojis, and enhanced Writing Tools for more dynamic writing. Additionally, iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro users can explore their surroundings using the new Camera Control for visual intelligence.
The update also integrates ChatGPT into Writing Tools and Siri, enabling users to access ChatGPT’s expertise without switching between apps, making tasks faster and easier.
In addition, Apple Intelligence expands language support with localized English for Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K. Future updates will bring support for languages like Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese, with some arriving in a software update in April.
The Image Playground feature allows users to create original images with themes, costumes, and accessories. Users can add text descriptions and generate images based on photos from their library, including styles like Animation and Illustration. Integrated directly into Messages and other apps like Freeform and Keynote, Image Playground is also available as a new app for users to enjoy.
Create Genmoji for Every Occasion
Apple Intelligence takes emojis to a whole new level with Genmoji, making conversations with loved ones more fun and expressive while introducing creative ways to communicate.
By simply typing a description into the emoji keyboard, users can generate a Genmoji with several options to choose from. For a more personalized touch, users can create Genmojis inspired by friends or family members using photos from their library. These personalized Genmojis can be customized with accessories like hats or sunglasses and tailored to reflect specific themes or activities, adding a unique flair to the conversation. Like traditional emojis, Genmojis can be inserted directly into messages, or shared as stickers or reactions in Tapback.
Elevate Note-Taking with Image Wand
The Notes app introduces powerful new tools to make note-taking more visual and dynamic. With Image Wand in the tool palette, users can quickly generate images based on the written or visual context within a note.
Image Wand transforms simple sketches into polished images with just a circle. Users can even circle empty space in a note, and Image Wand will analyze the surrounding content — using on-device generative models — to create relevant images that enhance the note. The feature offers styles such as Animation, Illustration, and an additional Sketch style, making note-taking more visually engaging.
Enhancements to Writing Tools
Writing Tools now offer more flexibility with the addition of the new “Describe Your Change” option, expanding on the existing features of Rewrite, Proofread, and Summarize. This new feature allows users to specify exactly what changes they want to make in their writing. Whether it’s adding more dynamic action verbs to a resume or transforming a dinner party invitation into a poem, “Describe Your Change” gives users greater control over their writing style and tone. Like all Writing Tools features, this new option is available systemwide across Apple apps and many third-party applications.
