The women’s doubles event is split into two groups, each featuring four pairs. The top two duos from each group will advance to the semifinals of the Tour Finals. Indian women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand began their BWF World Tour Finals debut with a hard-fought loss to China’s Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning in Hangzhou on Wednesday.
The match went to a decider, which ended 20-22, 22-20, 21-14 in favor of the Chinese pair, who won the silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In their Group A fixture at the 2024 Tour Finals, the Indian pair took the first game, but the Chinese shuttlers bounced back to win the second game.
The decider was a different story, as the Chinese Olympic medallists demonstrated their experience and secured the victory.
The Indian duo, the only representatives from India in this edition, will next face Malaysia’s Tan Pearly and Thinaah Muralitharan on Thursday, December 12.
Treesa and Gayatri entered the Tour Finals after winning their first Super 300 title at the Syed Modi International, and they also reached the semifinals at the Singapore and Macau Opens earlier this year.
The women’s doubles event is divided into two groups of four pairs each, with the top two duos from each group advancing to the semifinals.
