President-elect Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he had selected Kimberly Guilfoyle, the former Fox News host, as his nominee for ambassador to Greece. Guilfoyle, a longtime ally who campaigned with Trump and is in a romantic relationship with his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was chosen for her extensive experience and close ties to the Trump family.
Trump praised Guilfoyle on social media, stating, “For many years, Kimberly has been a close friend and ally. Her extensive experience and leadership in law, media, and politics, along with her sharp intellect, make her supremely qualified to represent the United States and safeguard its interests abroad.”
Guilfoyle, who worked at Fox News for over a decade, co-hosted “The Five” and previously served as a prosecutor, expressed her gratitude for the nomination in a post on X, saying she was “honored” to accept.
Guilfoyle is the latest person with strong connections to the Trump family to be appointed to a role in his second administration. The president-elect also selected Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as ambassador to France. Additionally, Trump appointed Massad Boulos, the father-in-law of his daughter Tiffany Trump, to a position in the administration. In his first administration, Jared Kushner and his wife, Ivanka Trump, served in key roles.
Guilfoyle was subpoenaed and testified before the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, carried out by a mob of Trump supporters attempting to overturn the 2020 election results. According to the committee chairman, Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., Guilfoyle was at the White House on the day of the attack.
She was previously married to Gavin Newsom, the Democratic governor of California, but they divorced in 2006. Recently, Guilfoyle became engaged to Donald Trump Jr.
