On the night of the stabbings, the two women were seated on the sand, having lit a fire, and were watching the full moon.
Prosecutors claim that a UK criminology student killed a lady and injured another because he wanted to “know what it would be like to take a life.” Earlier this year, in May, Nasen Saadi, 20, killed Amie Gray, 34, and gravely wounded Leanne Miles, 38, on Bournemouth’s Durley Chine Beach. In April, while seeking a location for the attack, Saadi began his hunt for a victim. According to a BBC article, he chose Bournemouth after investigating beaches in the south of England.
“He seems to have wanted to know what it would be like to take life, perhaps he wanted to know what it would be like to make women feel afraid, perhaps he thought it would make him feel powerful, make him interesting to others,” Sarah Jones KC, the prosecutor, explained to the jury at the Winchester Crown Court.
The two women were enjoying the full moon while sitting on the sand where they had built a fire on the night of the stabbings. When Saadi, 20, who was “hovering at the edges of the promenade,” went up and attacked the two unwary women with a knife while they were conversing and exchanging stories. I find genuine crime fascinating.
Ms. Gray passed away from her wounds on the beach after receiving ten thrusts from the knife, one of which went to her heart. Despite having roughly 20 wounds, Ms. Miles lived. “In an act horrifying in its savagery and in its randomness he stabbed them both multiple times, chasing after them as they tried to escape or divert him from the other and continued his attack,” said Ms Jones.
“As he moved away and attempted to blend back into the darkness, away from the glare of the lamps or the moonlight, and back into anonymity, he left them on the sand to bleed to death. He dropped his firearm.
“He changed his shoes and clothes and threw them away,” the lawyer continued.
Although Saddi denied any involvement, he informed the police that he was in Bournemouth at the time of the attacks and that he was attracted by true crime. After leaving the region the next day, he was taken into custody on May 28 after the police discovered blades concealed between a wall and a wardrobe and in his bedside drawer.
