Jill Biden, the wife of President Joe Biden, is reportedly believed to have played a key role in persuading the president to pardon his son, Hunter Biden. CNN’s chief national affairs correspondent, Jeff Zeleny, mentioned during a broadcast on Monday that there was “clearly pressure inside the family” and that Jill Biden had been “very supportive” of the idea in recent weeks. Zeleny suggested that Jill’s consistent advocacy might have ultimately influenced the decision.
Jill Biden herself confirmed her support for the pardon, stating, “Of course, I support the pardon of my son” when speaking to reporters at the White House.

While Jill Biden is widely regarded as one of the most influential first ladies in recent history, her relationship with Hunter has had its challenges. Hunter’s laptop, which was seized by authorities during Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, revealed text messages where he made derogatory comments about his stepmother, referring to her with offensive language, as reported by the New York Post.
Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to nine counts of failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes and was convicted in June on three federal gun charges for possessing a firearm while addicted to illegal drugs. He was scheduled to face sentencing hearings later this month, but those proceedings will now be avoided due to the presidential pardon. President Biden defended his decision on Sunday, stating, “I believed Hunter was being selectively and unfairly prosecuted.”
